Dustproof stack

The quality of an engine heavily depends on the quality of the parts used therein. This also includes that every single part is stored in a save and clean way, if it is supposed to last for many years and thousands of kilometres. For this reason, the engineers at Volkswagen Salzgitter were no longer satisfied with the existing transport solutions.

Sometimes, the totes were not even closed and had to be covered with an additional tarpaulin as protection against dust. This meant that when sending parts to external recipients, another manual task was added to the workflow, i.e. repacking. On other occasions, there were deficiencies in stability and fitting accuracy with some of the older totes. In conjunction with developers from SSI Schaefer, Volkswagen started looking for a different solution.

Delivery for assembly

Requirements for the new totes:

  • Possibility to automate
  • Easy to clean
  • Stability and fitting accuracy
  • Optimal use of space
  • Option to include thermoformed inlays

The greatest challenge was to fulfil all of Volkswagen’s requirements with just one tote. For the engineers, this meant turning away from classical tote design and attempting an evolutionary leap. After one year of development, the new tote was ready for serial production. The name: QX.

To explain this new tote in detail, we published a PDF brochure and created a webpage about QX. In case you have any further questions, please don’t hesitate getting in contact with us.
